The MOrk Tree (2019) - adapted by Ian Hattwick from "The PLOrk Tree" (2006), composed by Dan Trueman Performed by FaMLE, The MIT Laptop Ensemble Massachusetts Institute of Technology
The Princeton Laptop Orchestra (or PLOrk) has been a prime influence in the creation of laptop orchestras and ensembles around the world. "The PLOrk Tree" was one of the compositions performed on the very first PLOrk concert in 2006, and "The MOrk tree" is an adaptation which builds on the original version.
"The PLOrk Tree" used 15 performers and 3 conductors, while the MLE version uses a much smaller ensemble. This radically changes the form of the piece - rather than a dense tapestry of many different voices, the MLE version is focused more on the interlocking of smaller groups of sequences.
